An ongoing utility project on the Phillipsburg, N.J. side of the Northampton Street Toll-Supported Bridge (a.k.a. the Easton-Phillipsburg “free bridge”) will necessitate a detour of New Jersey-bound traffic off the bridge starting 7 p.m. tonight — Friday, Sept. 5 — and continuing into early Saturday morning, Sept. 6.
The travel restriction is needed so an Elizabethtown Gas contractor — Skoda Construction — can replace aging gas mains and connections along South Main Street in Phillipsburg. The work area is in close proximity to the bridge. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A COMMISSION PROJECT)
Affected NJ-bound motorists are advised to cross into Phillipsburg via the non-toll eastbound direction on the nearby Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) Toll Bridge.
PA traffic is expected to be able to continue crossing the Northampton Street Bridge while utility work takes place.
