SCUDDER FALLS – A series of changes have been made in this week’s Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project construction plan.  Here’s how those changes could affect motorists tonight through Wednesday:

Rescheduled!  I-295 West Off-Ramp to Taylorsville Road (Exit 10) – This is the first exit ramp (for travel to Yardley and New Hope) after crossing the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge from New Jersey into Pennsylvania.  The previously announced overnight ramp closure scheduled for tonight has been pushed back one day and is now scheduled to take place 8 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.  The ramp closure will allow for the erection of a new sign structure in the vicinity of the interchange.  The posted detour will be via the nearby PA Route 332/Newtown-Yardley Road interchange with I-295 (Exit 8).

Impending! I-295 North Off-Ramp to NJ Route 29 (Exit 76 – the last New Jersey exit prior to the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge) – This all-day ramp closure remains on track to be implemented all day tomorrow.  The closure remains on track to begin approximately 7 a.m. and continue to as late as 8 p.m.  When the ramp is closed, Exit 75 for County Route 579/Bear Tavern Road will be the last exit in New Jersey before the tolling point at the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge.  I-295 North motorists are urged to plan ahead on Tuesday and be on the alert for warning signs in advance of Exit 75.  Failure to take Exit 75 will result in a point-of-no-return situation where motorists will need to pay the bridge toll before attempting a U-turn from Pennsylvania back into New Jersey.  A detour map can be found on the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project homepage: www.scudderfallsbridge.com.

Revised Reopening! Roundabout connector lanes at the I-295/Route 29 interchange (Exit 76) – The connector lanes between the roundabouts at the I-295/NJ Route 29 interchange have been undergoing complete reconstruction since early November.  The work has progressed to the point of paving.  There is a slight chance the two lanes reopen as early as Tuesday afternoon if temperatures stay warm enough for paving work.  If not, the lanes should at least be in a condition to allow for reopening before Wednesday morning’s peak commuting period.

Once reopened, the reconstructed roundabout connector lanes will allow for the resumption of the following travel movements at the I-295/NJ Route 29 interchange (Exit 76):

    • I-295 SB access to Route 29 NB
    • I-295 NB access to Route 29 SB
    • Route 29 SB access to I-295 SB
    • Route 29 NB access to I-295 NB/WB and the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge Pennsylvania-bound
    • U-turns on I-295 and Route 29

Next Up! Paving Possible at Route 29 Southbound Bypass Lane and Route 175 – When the roundabout connector lanes reopen, project paving will move to the NJ Route 29 southbound bypass lane and portions of NJ Route 175/Upper River Road.  Dates and times for this work is pending.
