PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – Overnight single-lane travel patterns are scheduled to be implemented next week along both directions of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s 4.2-mile I-78 roadway segment in New Jersey.

The scheduled travel restrictions are as follows:

  • I-78 Eastbound — Reduced to a single-lane (two of three lanes closed) from the I-78 Toll Bridge to the Routes 22/173 interchange (Exit 3) 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (next day) Monday, August 3, through Wednesday, August 5.
  • I-78 Westbound — Reduced to a single-lane (two of three lanes closed) from the Routes 22/173 interchange (Exit 3) to the I-78 Toll Bridge 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (next day) Tuesday, August 4, through Thursday, August 6.

(Note: Friday, August 7, may be added as an additional date in the event of a rainout of the four scheduled work dates.  Direction and times for a Friday night work detail to be determined.)

The lane closures will enable a contractor to complete lane striping and other finishing work to asphalt longitudinal joints between lanes along the roadway segment, which crosses through portions of Phillipsburg, Pohatcong, and Alpha.

The scheduled lane closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
