NEW HOPE, PA. – The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission today applauded Troop M of the Pennsylvania State Police for a recent deployment aimed at enforcing width restrictions and lowered speed limits now in effect at the New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge.
PA State Troopers conducted a Truck Enforcement Detail at the bridge in August, resulting in the following outcomes:
- 19 vehicle inspections
- Six citations issued
- 83 warnings issued
- Six operators placed out of service
- Five vehicles placed out of service
- One vehicle determined to be overweight
- One vehicle determined to be oversized
Wide-load restrictions, single-lane travel restrictions, and lowered speed limits went into effect in each direction at the bridge earlier this summer as part of a construction project that will convert the tolling point to an open-road cashless all-electronic toll-collection system. A Commission contractor has already removed a large portion of the bridge’s former cash-collection toll plaza, leaving a single toll lane for E-ZPass and TOLL BY PLATE transactions.
In the southbound tolled direction, vehicles or trailers going from New Jersey to Pennsylvania are limited to a 10-foot maximum width. In the northbound non-toll direction, vehicles or trailers going from Pennsylvania to New Jersey are limited to an 11-foot maximum width. The speed limit in the active work zone is reduced to 25 miles per hour.
Until further notice, Route 202 motorists approaching the bridge are urged to reduce speeds, prepare for lane shifts, observe size restrictions, and exercise caution.
