ROUTE 1 SOUTHBOUND MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS FRIDAY EVENING AT TRENTON-MORRISVILLE TOLL BRIDGE
Contact: Joe Donnelly or Pete PetersonTRENTON, NJ - Rush-hour commuters should anticipate significant traffic delays this evening along Route 1 South on the New Jersey approach to the Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.
Traffic delays are occurring as a result of a broken joint discovered this afternoon on the Route 1 South overpass that crosses South Pennsylvania Avenue in Morrisville. The two-lane Route 1 southbound roadway is narrowed to a single lane after the toll plaza on the Route 1 side of the bridge so work crews can make emergency repairs to the overpass joint, which is a short distance away from the toll plaza.
Motorists who normally use Route 1 South to cross into Pennsylvania from New Jersey are urged to use the Scudder Falls (I-95) Bridge as an alternative through the remainder of Friday's evening rush-hour period.
Repairs to the overpass joint in Morrisville are not expected to be completed until Saturday. The damaged overpass joint is unrelated to the rehabilitation and widening project at the nearby toll bridge over the Delaware River. Work crews from that project, however, are making the emergency repairs to the overpass joint.
