(Truck axle rate explanation:  The DRJTBC's base per-axle rate for all trucks with three or more axles is $3.25 ($2.93 E-ZPass off-peak).  The peak-travel toll for a three-axle truck, for example, is $9.75)

(Trailers:  Automobiles with trailers in tow are charged $1.50 regardless of whether the trailer has one, two or three axles.  Class 2 trucks [two axles] with trailers are charged $3.25 ($2.93 off-peak) for each additional axle in tow.)

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission on December 22, 2008 approved changes to the agency's E-ZPass pricing policies, including implementation of a new monthly account maintenance fee and changes to some of its discounts for E-ZPass users.  (The toll changes took effect 11 p.m. January 14, 2009; the fee is scheduled to take effect June 1, 2009.

The changes, however, left intact the 40-percent commuter discount  for motorists who make 20 trips across a Commission toll bridge within a 35-day period.  Also, the changes maintained an off-peak truck discount, revising it to a 10-percent reduction from its previous 15-percent level.

The changes brought the Commission's E-ZPass pricing policies more closely in line with those of other transportation agencies serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.  They also are enabling the Commission to address declining revenues due to changing travel patterns as a result of the economic downturn and higher mandated operating costs at the Commission.

The changes to the DRJTBC E-ZPass program were as follows:

  • A $1 monthly administrative maintenance fee on each Commission E-ZPass account (to begin effective June 1, 2009).
  • The 20-percent "casual" discount previously provided to all motorists whenever they use an E-ZPass transponder to pay a toll at a DRJTBC crossing was eliminated.
  • The 5-percent peak-period discount for trucks and other commercial vehicles was eliminated.
  • The off-peak discount for trucks and other commercial vehicles was maintained, although the discount was revised to 10 percent, down from 15 percent.

Explanations of discounts and fees are listed below:

Off-peak discount for commercial vehicles with E-ZPass
All Class 2 thru Class 7 vehicles (vehicles with commercial license plates) that are equipped with E-ZPass transponders (issued by DRJTBC or another IAG-member agency) qualify for automatic discounts of up to 10 percent during off-peak periods.
Off-Peak Hours = 9:01 p.m. to 5:59 a.m. -- 10 percent discount

Commuter discount for non-commercial-class vehicles with E-ZPass
An automatic 40 percent discount - 45 cents instead of the base 75-cent toll - is extended to DRJTBC E-ZPass tag holders who make 20 trips through a Commission toll plaza during a 35-day period.  The discount also is extended to all personal E-ZPass tags issued by any of the 24 toll agencies in the Interagency Group (IAG), but the tag holder must register his/her transponder as a companion account with the DRJTBC. The IAG includes the DRJTBC, the New Jersey Turnpike, Pennsylvania Turnpike and other E-ZPass issuing agencies in the Northeast. The commuter discount applies to automobiles, pickup trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorcycles. These are Class 1, Class 11 and Class 12 vehicles. To register a companion account, motorists should call 1-800-363-0049.

Account maintenance administration fee
The DRJTBC will begin to charge a $1 monthly account maintenance fee in 2009.  The fee will bring the DRJTBC E-ZPass program with the preponderance of other toll agencies in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey that began applying such a fee years ago.  The fee will be applied on a per-account basis -- not on each toll-collection transponder.  June 1, 2009 has been established as a implementation date for the $1 monthly fee.
